Baritone Kevin Earley has been a California Philharmonic Orchestra favorite since almost the beginning of the Festival on the Green concerts. And so has Suzanna Guzmán. They appeared together in 2002 singing the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber. The two of them appear at the Los Angeles County Arboretum in Arcadia at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26 and an afternoon performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 27 at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, in a program of the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Guzmán had achieved international fame when they first appeared on the local Festival stage in 2002. Earley, although he had received great reviews for his role of Curley in “Oklahoma”, he was not well known. But now, after a successful career in musicals around the country and with a good fan base, Earley is about to launch his Broadway career in a major role. He has announced that almost immediately following his appearance at the Arboretum with Cal Phil he will leave for New York to begin rehearsals for “A Tale of Two Cities” with an opening scheduled for August.
As Victor Vener, conductor of the California Philharmonic Orchestra often announces, “He is a part of the Cal Phil family”.
The California Philharmonic Orchestra will perform music from “Oklahoma”, “Sound of Music”, “The King and I”, “South Pacific”, “Carousel” and “State Fair” on Saturday, July 26 with soloists Suzanna Guzmán and Kevin Earley.
