Jim Stubblefield is scheduled to perform with his quartet, Guitarra Exotica, on Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. Showtime is 8 p.m.
Guitarist Stubblefield has a band, Incendio, that has done well in CDs and on several TV shows. Incendio has a strong following and is a Billboard charting band. But in this appearance, the fleet-fingered guitar player brings along three top studio and jazz musicians, Anna Stafford, violin and Ruben Ramos, bass guitar and percussionist Bryan Brock to allow him to show off his talents in a program of flamenco, jazz, classical, Celtic and other Western and Eastern forms of music.
To add to the local touch, Stafford resides in Pasadena and in fact runs a studio, StringVision with her husband, cellist John Krozosa. Ramos lives in Sierra Madre and recently performed at Club 322 backing jazz singer Jane Fuller who is also a resident of Sierra Madre. Professionally, Stafford, Ramos and Brock bring top credentials in rock, jazz and classical music.
Stubblefield has released four CDs which received nominations in Disc Makers Independent Music Competition, Nav Magazine’s Acoustic Instrumental Album of the Year competition and was selected for participation in a compilation CD of Flamenco music, of which Stubblefield is an expert. With his group, Incendio, he achieved national notice after the CD sold tens of thousands. As a composer, his music is heard on several cable and network television shows.
One of Jim’s staunchest fans is his aunt, Patty Cole, of Arcadia, who alerted this newspaper to the local performance date.
The Coffee Gallery Backstage is at 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena. Tickets are $15. For reservations, please call (626) 398-7919.
