Pasadena Symphony will unveil a new world this Saturday, April 18 when it performs Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” as
only one of three exciting pieces the orchestra will perform.
Conductor Jorge Mester will open the concert with Darius Milhaud’s “The Creation of the World”, a piece that he has led several times here in Pasadena to great effect. Linda Wang is to perform Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto the standard bearer for all Romance compositions, another example of newness that heralded a new beginning. Finally, the centerpiece, Czechloslovakian composer—cum American—who wrote “From the New World during a summer in Iowa.
The Pasadena Symphony concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Pasadena. Ticket prices range from $19 to $58.
