The Arcadia Public Library Foundation has again presented an outstanding four-concert season and the final of the 2008-2009 season ends on Wednesday, April 29 when the Galileo Quartet performs the music of Brahms, Beethovan and Dvorak.
The Galileo Quartet consists of top Los Angeles musicians: Lorenz Gamma and Paul Stein, violins; violist Carrie Dennis, and cellist Maksim Velichkin. Guest soloist will be Los Angeles Philharmonic’s principal clarinetist Michele Zukovsky.
Ms. Zukovsky will perform what is considered Brahms’ finest chamber work, the Clarinet Quintet in B-minor. At age 60, Brahms’ had ceased composing but was inspired by a contemporary clarinetist to write a work for the star clarinetist of the day. The library concert carries the title “Autumnal Inspiration: Brahms’ Monumental Clarinet Quintet” to signal the importance of the work and to relate Zukovsky’s celebrated playing.
The concert, held in the Cay Mortenson Auditorium at the library, begins at 7:00 p.m. No reservations are necessary. Admission is free.
Paul Stein serves as coordinator for the Kaleidoscope series.
