Southwest Chamber Collaborates with Toru Takemitsu Festival

Southwest Chamber Music will participate with the Shumei Arts Council in the two-week series of concerts and community events between April 18th and May 4 exploring the world of Toru Takemitsu.
file-foto-toru-takemitsu-festival-20094The Japanese composer’s works will be performed by Southwest Chamber Music on Saturday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m. at the Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena. The chamber ensemble will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Telemann and Takemitsu to compare the qualities of the Baroque composers with one of the major composers of the late 20th-century.
Southwest Chamber Music’s season finale on May 4 will also be dedicated to Takemitsu’s music. This concert will be at 8:00 p.m. at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, 200 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles. The centerpiece of the May 4 program will be Takemitsu’s “Waterscape Series”.
Tickets for both programs are $38, general; seniors, $28; Students, $10.
