Boys and girls, ages eight to 12 who love to sing will want to be a part of the open auditions to join the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. Auditions will be held in Pasadena on May 28, 29, 30 and 31.
Audition appointments are necessary, but no special preparation is required. Singers are heard in groups of five. According to LACC, the ability to match tone, follow instructions, and thrive in a supportive but structured learning environment are the attributes being sought. Rehearsals are held once a week at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church; additional musicianship skills are honed in classes; individual vocal training is given.
Music performed encompasses folk music from around the world, spirituals, gospel songs and jazz and new music. Performance opportunities include two self-produced concerts each year plus performances at major civic events. LACC premier choirs are often invited to perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Hollywood Bowl.
The Children’s Chorus is a tuition-based program with need-based scholarships available. No qualified applicant will be turned away due to a lack of funds, according to officials at the LACC.
Auditions will be held at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church, 585 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. Audition information and appointments can be obtained by calling (626) 793-4231.
