Mathieu Dufour Named to Prinicpal Flute Post at L A Phil
French flutist Mathieu Dufour, who has toured with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Asia, and has been principal flute since 1999 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, was named principal flute of the L A Phil by departing Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen as one of his final appointments before Gustavo Dudamel takes over in September.
Dufour will join the orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 3 when the orchestra celebrates with a free community concert to welcome Dudamel. His official duties will start mid-September at the start of the winter 2009/2010 season. Dufour is widely recorded and has soloed with the Paris National Orchestra and the Orchestra National du Capitole de Toulouse.
