Is this some kind of joke? Well, yes and no. The Los Angeles Contemporary Ensemble has scheduled a concert for 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Mountain View Mausoleum in Altadena.
In the 1950′s JPL scientist and artist Richard Davies, Altadena artist Jirayr Zorthyan and Nobel-prize winning physicist, Richard Feynman celebrated the era by often getting together to party, sometimes at The Blue Fox in Altadena (now I am told it is a church), but other times at Mountain View Mausoleum.
Just in time for Halloween, Andrew Macintosh and Melinda Myrre, violins; Joshua Heaphey, viola; Digo Miralles, cello; and Yana Reznik, piano who perform as the Los Angeles Contemporary Ensemble will play Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2. Contemporary? If you think of 1944 as merely yesterday, when Shostakovich composed the piece, well, then, it is contemporary. It is bright and engaging. The fourth movement begins with a theme that sounds just like “Fiddler on the Roof”.
So, with music like this and the quiet ambiance of the Mountain View Masoleum, what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Contemporary Ensemble performs Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Mountain View Mausoleum. The Mountain View Mausoleum is located at 2300 N. Marengo Ave., Altadena.
