Armadillo String Quartet, Margaret Thornhill–Tonight, Jan 11

LATE NEWS: The Armadillo String Quartet in its 30th season, begins tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the Neighborhood Church, Pasadena. Appearing with the quartet is clarinetist Margaret Thornhill. The program includes clarinet quintets by Mozart and Hindemith (with Thornhill) and Ives’ First Quartet.
Thornhill serves as Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at Concordia University in Irvine and is founder, conductor of the Los Angeles Clarinet Choir. Locally, the clarinet choir has performed at the South Pasadena Restoration Concert series. Last year saw the release of her first CD, a duo with Thornhill and pianist Twyla Meyer on the Arundo label.
Members of the Armadillo String Quartet are Barry Socher and Steve Scharf, violins, Ray Tischer, viola and Armen Ksajikian, cello.
General admission is $20; $10 for seniors and students. The Neighborhood Church is at 301 N. Orange Grove Ave., Pasadena.

The Armadillo String Quartet has a long and loving relationship with Peter Schickele. Their Telarc recording of PDQ Bach/Jeckyl and Hyde Tour is a must for “serious” music collectors. Here is a rehearsal during the tour:
