Duane Funderburk (l) is seen with violinist Alex Russell. They were to have performed together this week-end at Azusa Pacific in a new work
Duane Funderburk, Dean of the School of Music at Azusa Pacific University, suddenly resigned his post at the school on December 21, according to Allison Oster, spokeswoman for the university.
“We do not comment on personnel matters,” she said.
Adding to the mysterious circumstances of his abrupt departure, Funderburk has also left his post as Artist-in-Residence at the Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena.
A woman answering the telephone at the Lake Avenue Church to give information about the popular Goldline Concerts that were initiated by Funderburk, confirmed that Dr. Funderburk had left the program at the church, but said that the series will continue uninterrupted, but did not know under whose direction the program would fall. She was unable to speak further on the subject of either the program or his departure.
APU has named Don Neufeld as Acting Dean of the School of Music as an interim position. The university said that a nation-wide search would be started immediately to name a new Dean.
