Camerata Pacifica at The Huntington Feb 9

Clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester

Camerata Pacifica’s February concert is this Tuesday, Feb. 9 in Fellows Hall at The Huntington Library, Art Galleries and Botanical Gardens, San Marino at 8 p.m. The program will include Brahms’s Three Intermezzi performed by pianist Warren Jones, young Spanish clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester in Brahms’ Sonata in F-major for Clarinet and Piano, and Mozart’s Divertimento in D-Flat with principal players Catherine Leonard, violin, Richard Yongjae O’Neill, viola, and Ani Aznavoorian, cello.
The highlight of the program is Jones and Franch-Ballester’s duo performance. Jones was awarded Collarborative Pianist of the Year by Musical America for his successful piano partnering with such luminaries as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Marilyn Horne, Samuel Ramey and others. Franch-Ballester has been touted by critics around the globe as a rising star of clarinet, with endorsements from the best known clarinetists. Franch-Ballester is returning to Camerata Pacifica after receiving critical acclaim for his April, 2007 performance of a Brahms clarinet concerto.
The string trio completing the evening with Mozart’s Divertimento should provide a well-rounded (though a tad somber) program.
Camerata Pacifica has four remaining concerts (including this one). The ensemble is offering a four-ticket subscription for $100. A single ticket price for this concert is $42. Either can be ordered by calling (805) 884-8410 or on line at www.cameratapacifica.org.
