The Southwest Chamber Music will present the inaugural concert leading to the cultural exchange with Vietnam at Pasadena’s Armory Center for the Arts at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 27, and again at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1 at the Colburn School for the Performing Arts, Los Angeles.
The program introduces new compositions by three of four composers-in-residence and one from Vietnam. Alexandra du Bois and Kurt Rohde of the United States and Vu Nhat Tan and one by Vietnamese composer Pham Minh Thanh. Other compositions by Nguyen Thien Dao and Ton That Tiet will introduce American audiences to their contemporary styles.
Du Bois’ “An Eye for an Eye Makes the Whole World Blind”; Tang’s “Meditation”; Rohde’s “Under the Influence”; Dao and Trahn’s “Ton That Tiet Memoire de la Riviere” will be heard at the Feb. 27 concert.
Tickets are $38, general admission; $28 seniors; and $10 students.
